My first week at Solent was so exciting. Getting to meet new people, our lecturers, joining in activities and discovering the building in which I'll be spending the next 3 years. The most exciting thing however has to be the inspiring guest speakers we had come in during induction week.
Spob, the Head of Professional Development at illamasqua came in to give us a talk and she brought Charlotte Savoury the International Brand Ambassador to do a demonstration for us. Charlotte chose one of us from class to do her demonstration on. She then recreated one of the looks from their latest fashion shows which centred around a strong highlighted face, navy eyes and a bold lip.
She went into detail about the products she was using and why they used them and also gave some industry tips as to when and where to use a certain product.
This information came in useful as most of the products she used are in our kit and so now we know how the Illamasqua team designed them to be used.
It was great to see someone doing this live, especially someone as great as Charlotte. We were given a chance to come up and take pictures of the finished look. The model looked so beautiful at the end and the emerald lip complimented her deep skin tone so well.
After the demonstration we had a workshop. we were split into groups of 3 and told to create a look. We had to imagine that we were backstage at a show and only half the makeup had arrived and to create a look with the limited products we had. My team came up with the concept of 'The strong woman'. Amazonian Strength which shines from the inside out. We started with the idea of a strong metallic brow which was inspired by the metallic lip Charlotte had demonstrated previously. This would be complimented by dewy skin and bare eyes and lips. However once we started we wanted to accentuate the golden metallic theme and so we carried the theme through onto the lips using the same product which was the gold shade from the Illamasqua reflections Palette. We used Hydroveil on the skin to make it glow and then went over that with the new once eyeshadow in Courtier on the high points of the face to add an extra highlight.
We all fell in love with the lips and our group was chosen as one of the winners due to the way we interacted as a team and put our ideas together. It really was a great day.
Later on in the week representatives from Charles Fox came in to show us how to use the products in our kit. This was helpful as they mentioned more than one use for each product.
One of the tasks we were set during induction week was to create a Paper Bag Mask influenced on who we wanted to be in 5 years time. We were given all sorts of materials to use including string, card and glitter glue. It got the class interacting and broke the ice so it was a really fun task.
On mine I exxagerated the feature to show how I wanted to have a larger than life career.
